Rwanda to Host 7th Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in 2027
Kigali, 12 August 2026 – Rwanda is preparing to co-host the 7th Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in Kigali from 30–31 March 2027, bringing together global leaders and experts to advance action on mental health. The Summit will be held under the theme “Mental Health for All: Transforming Systems, Expanding Access, Changing Lives.”
The high-level gathering will bring together ministers, policymakers, researchers, mental health professionals, development partners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to exchange experiences, examine emerging mental health challenges and identify practical strategies for strengthening mental health systems and expanding access to quality, equitable and people-centred services.
Hosting the Summit reflects Rwanda’s continued commitment to addressing the growing burden of mental health conditions and advancing national and global efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the goal of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
Commenting on Rwanda’s selection to host the Summit, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, Minister of Health, said:
“Rwanda is honoured to host the 7th Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit. This is an opportunity to share our experience, learn from countries around the world and strengthen collaboration to improve mental health care. We believe mental health and well-being are fundamental to the prosperity and resilience of individuals, families and communities, and Rwanda’s experience has shown what is possible when government, communities and partners work together. We look forward to working together to expand access to quality mental health care for all.”
Rwanda was officially announced as host of the 7th Summit at the conclusion of the 6th Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit, held in Doha, Qatar, on 1 October 2025.
Since its inauguration in 2018, the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit has brought together governments and partners to strengthen political commitment and accelerate collective action on mental health. The Summit promotes recognition of mental health as an integral part of public health, social justice and human rights, in line with international frameworks including the UN Human Rights Council Resolution on Mental Health and Human Rights and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
